When healing your tattoo it's important to keep in mind that it's a wound that needs to be healed.
So the less you fuss over it the better, the main rules to keep in mind while healing your beautiful piece of art are:
- Keep it clean
- Let it breathe
- Keep it lightly moisturised
After your Appointment:
Leave the tattoo covering on for 4 hours, or for however long your artist recommends.
This is to give the tattoo time to reduce inflammation as well as ooze blood plasma (this is completely normal and to be expected).
The first wash:
After 4 hours have elapsed, remove the covering and thoroughly wash your tattoo
with the palm of your hand under lukewarm water, using unscented soap.
Be sure to dab the tattoo dry with a clean towel after showering.
The following days:
The day after your appointment, the tattoo might have weeped slightly during the night. Just lightly wash the tattoo again, leaving the tattoo open and allowing it to breathe.
Only start lotioning the tattoo from the
second morning, only applying an extremely thin layer to the tattooed area.
Only lotion the tattoo twice per day, unless extremely dry/flaky, then a third time is allowed. This is to stop you from over moisturizing the tattoo, as too much lotion may or may not result in more ink being pulled out of your tattoo.
Only lightly wash your tattoo every time you shower.
